ligaments may be affected. These are tight collagen fiber strands that form tight structures in fiber bundles. As ligaments accompanying the joint, the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments connect the simultaneously stable and flexible structure that enables the movements of the knee joint. They are called <strong>cruciate ligaments<\/strong> because they appear to cross at the center of the knee joint. Strictly speaking, however, they are not located in the joint but outside it, where they enclose the synovial sac. They provide stability and mobility, but also limit the ability to rotate and extend the tibia.
