influence metabolism and cell formation. Stem cells, unlike other cell types, are capable of regenerating, dividing, or changing themselves into other cell types. Stem cells can be transplanted autologously or allogeneically. This means that the patient&#8217;s own stem cells (autologous) or those of a donor (allogeneic) are used for treatment to replace defective or missing cells. For example, hematopoietic stem cells from the bone marrow are suitable for creating new blood cells (e.g. in the case of leukemia as an allogeneic stem cell transplant). However, <strong>stem cells can<\/strong> also have a positive influence on the <strong>production and regeneration of other body cells<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of <strong>osteoarthritis, autologous stem cell transplantation is<\/strong> used. The roughened surface of the cartilage defect is used as an opportunity to obtain stem cells from the patient&#8217;s own body tissue, which are then transplanted into the damaged joint.
