There are different causes of spondylolisthesis. In older age, this occurs when wear and tear weakens the vertebral connections. triggers or causes can be behind spondylolisthesis. If, for example, the flexible connection between the joints is defective, the vertebrae may slip. Much more frequently, however, age-related signs of wear and tear are behind spondylolisthesis.<\/p>\n<p>The intervertebral discs consist of a soft inner core, which is surrounded by an outer fibrous ring. With age, the inner core loses fluid and dehydration of the disc occurs. The result is a disturbance in the functioning of muscles and ligaments in the area of the intervertebral discs. This makes it easier for vertebrae to slide out of their normal position.<\/p>\n<p>Certain sports are associated with an increased risk of spondylolisthesis. This is related to specific movement patterns that can promote spondylolisthesis. Regular overstretching of the back, as is the case with weightlifting or javelin throwing, can trigger spondylolisthesis. Other causes of spondylolisthesis can be trauma to the spine or specific diseases.
