What are conservative treatments?

In medicine, conservative treatments generally include all treatments in which there is no invasive or minimally invasive intervention in the body, as is the case, for example, with classical surgery or treatments using endoscopy or arthroscopy. Instead, the body is treated externally with various influences or targeted therapy is pursued by means of medication.

In orthopedics, conservative treatments include, for example, physiotherapy, massage, occupational therapy, physical therapies with cold, heat or electricity, chiropractic therapy and the use of bandages and orthoses. In addition, there is drug therapy, which can be implemented with painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, preparations for muscle relaxation and decramping or other modes of action. Drug therapies differ between classical drug administration by means of ointments and creams for application, drugs such as tablets and capsules for oral intake, and infusion and injection therapies, in which the active substance is injected specifically bypassing the digestive tract or at the site of action. Infusion and injection therapies, however, are already counted as minimally invasive treatments when appropriate.

Conservative treatments in OZMO

OZMO offers a variety of conservative methods for treating joint disorders, spinal disorders and pain management.

The treatments listed are performed on an outpatient basis in our on-site offices, so no inpatient stay is necessary. Depending on the treatment plan, you will visit us for your therapy with the respective conservative treatment at individual appointments or several times at short or longer intervals. Our practice team will inform you according to your needs and will be happy to reserve several appointments in advance to match your treatment plan.

Cartilage therapy (hyaluronic acid therapy)

Cartilage therapy is an injection therapy with hyaluronic acid, where appropriate preparations are injected into the joint. Hyluronic acid is naturally present in the body and performs a variety of tasks, for example in the structure of the synovial fluid. This conservative treatment reduces the pressure on the joint cartilage and relieves the pain situation.

Blood plasma therapy (with growth factors)

Blood plasma therapy, also known as PRP therapy, involves injecting the patient’s own processed blood plasma into the joint to help injured cartilage regenerate. In this process, the growth factors contained are specifically concentrated at the site of the injury and activated in their natural function to promote the natural healing process.

Shock wave and fascia therapy

Shock wave therapy and fascia therapy are used for the targeted loosening of tissue structures whose hardening and cramping cause disorders in the musculoskeletal system. Depending on its type, shock wave therapy can also achieve additional effects, such as dissolving calcifications in joints. Fascia therapy, on the other hand, can stimulate the collagen fiber network in the body to the internal organs, lymphatic system and blood circulation.

Infusion therapy (analgesic and also anti-inflammatory)

Infusion therap ies are among the drug therapies among conservative treatments. In this process, an infusion is used to deliver active ingredients directly into the bloodstream to bypass the digestive tract. This can significantly reduce the risk of potential side effects. We use infusion therapies primarily to relieve pain and inflammation.

EMTT – Innovative Magnetotransduction Therapy

As a new and innovative variant of magnetic field therapy, extracorporeal magnetotransduction therapy is able to provide relief for complaints involving pain and inflammation of the musculoskeletal system. Healing processes are accelerated and the relief of discomfort from wear and tear diseases and injuries is sustainably promoted.

As a specialist for conservative treatments, Prof. Dr. med. habil. Peter Diehl joins the team and supports you according to his expertise, provided that the core of your complaints does not lie in the subject areas of his colleagues. The orthopedic and trauma surgery specialist is also highly skilled in sports medicine and manual medicine.

As an expert in regenerative cartilage therapy and stem cell therapy, Prof. Dr. Diehl not only works as a specialist, but is also the head physician at the Dr. Lubos Clinic in Bogenhausen. He not only shares his expertise in a variety of publications, but is himself actively involved in the training of new orthopedic surgeons by teaching as a professor of orthopedics at the University of Rostock.
